Doing December

McCarty and kiddos came down for Maces birthday. Carty helped me upcycle a set of shelfs into a coat closet. love it. December is end of term and lots of fun Christmas treat/ art activity's. Mace just thought they were celebrating his birthday a lot. "We had another party at school!" His favorite gift was a Lunch Box. We made a deal that if he kept his pants clean for a week (notorious for racing stripes) that he could have a cold lunch. I spy a Nephite is going in the church bag. Grandma got him a hissing snake flashlight. So smart to have it USB chargeable or else I'd go broke on batteries. We had Lava Cakes at home and took a treasure/money cake that weekend to Grandma Pams. Preston was wiring a pump. Malena got some coaching practice in on me. One minute we were just was talking the next I was balling discovering some emotional insights about myself. She's really good. "Change your Thoughts. Change your Attitude. Change your Outlook. It's all in the Power of Thoughts." Then we all moved the cows back to Carson's. Then Cake.

"I want to be in Kindergarten" was a phrase the others used as end of term for them meant testing and big projects due. Katana spent several hours on her Piute Indian tribe diorama. With salt dough she made sweat huts, tepees, a fisherman, net, boat, berry patch and other replicas. I was impressed by her creativity and details. She was honored to receive a TROJAN award for RESPONSIBILITY. You go Girl. Zara was car surfing in the kitchen and face planted it. Huge goose egg on her noggin. First real snow came the 3nd week of December. Zara wanted to build a snowman but the kids were at school and I was afraid it wouldn't last. I went out with her but it was the wrong snow. I used a barrel to make roundish molds for a snowman. Zara helped gather sticks and weeds for it's hair. Then I was not allowed to help build her snowbaby. The kids came home and immediately went out again. Snow caves, snowball fights finish with Hot cocoa. (snow and I have a love hate relationship.) 5 Days before Christmas Slobber and Brownie got out. Slobber was hit and died in my arms as I broke down for the cops and other motorists on the side of the road. Brownie's leg was messed up. We diligently started doctoring it in hopes of saving his life if not his limb. (I have a love hate relationship with my animals too.)

Katana's last Activity Days this year was a play that one of the graduating girls (Katie Henderson) wrote and directed. Practicing was a focus of several of the last few activities and the girls were very excited to perform it for family and friends. Katie's mom is the director of the Children's Drama Club in Wendell. It was cute to see Katie "work" -wardrobe changes, forgotten lines, missed marks. It was like Steven Spielberg working with amateurs on a budget and a looming release date. I loved it. It was about a new girl finding true friends. And together standing up to the "Mean Girls". She had some "punny" moments. A few scripture passages and even the song Popular from Wicked. Axels last CFM Goal of the year was to learn to braid hair. Good thing he has the best sister ever. It took him a few tries but I think he's well on his way.
