Jerome, Idaho - Rodney I. Waite, 56, of Jerome, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2014, following a two year struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was born November 3, 1957, in Nampa, Idaho, the son of John William Waite and Nola Silvia Schwartz Waite. Rodney graduated from Vallivue High School in Caldwell and then served an LDS Mission in Sao Paolo, Brazil. He married Edie Fiala on June 29, 1979, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Jerome where they raised three children. Rodney worked at Hamilton Drug Store, Western Auto, Blacker Furniture and then at Kinetico Water Systems. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a gifted singer. Mostly he enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Rodney was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in a variety of callings including Stake High Councilor and Primary chorister. His favorite was teaching the youth Sunday School class.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Edie, of Jerome; their children, Jarrett (Jenna) Waite, of St. George, Utah, Audrey (Nathan) Zohner, of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Jennifer (Jason) Kelly, of Jerome, Idaho. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; his mother, one sister, Candice (Doug) Young; two brothers, Eljay (Pep) Waite and Dale (Linda) Waite; one sister-in-law, Linda Waite; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Fiala; and many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, John Waite, and his brother DelRay Waite.
A visitation will be held this evening, Friday August 8, 2014, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 South Lincoln, Jerome, where family and friends may call from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday August 9, 2014, in the Jerome LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 825 East Avenue B, Jerome, with Bishop Ed King officiating. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery.
Rodney's family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in his name to: Jerome Public Library, 100 1st Avenue East, Jerome, ID 83338.
