Preston got our canoe out of the rafters and we registered it for the first time in 4 years. Then we spent all of July on the water. On the 14th we took a family trip on the snake river to Pillar Falls. A 2 mile paddle: mostly easy going is filled with gorgeous scenery and smooth green, blue water. 500 feet canon walls, Rock alcoves, The experience of going under Perrine Bridge, seeing base jumpers from below. The kids swam, explored caves, and climbed around on the rocks. Absolutely exhausted by the time we got back our only thought was "when can we do that again." Also amazing view is the Perrine Caulee Falls on your way out of the canyon. A quick hike to a falls you can walk behind.
The next week I took my kids to Ritter Island. We climbed the water fall and got our feet wet. The water is FREEZING. That Saturday 20th - another Family Trip up a side stream only a canoe can reach. And not every canoe just ones brave enough to lay flat and squeeze under an old foot bridge to get to. Again FREEZING water and GORGEOUS views.
27th back on the snake. This time we added another canoe, 2 kayaks and 6 more Kelly's. We set out a picnic on a little island across from Pillar Falls we called Skull Rock. JD succeed to kayak down one of the falls without dying. Then we packed our gear over Pillar falls and continued another 1.5 miles to the base of Shoshone Falls. The 212 ft waterfall is an impressive sight from above and 10X that from water level. We left Grandma and the kids at the mouth of the bowl. Then Preston, JD and I attempted get closer. We actually touched the walls of a smaller waterfall crack before turning away from the strong spray fearful of capsizing. A truly memorable day.
